Efficiency and Reliability for Extreme Conditions – 300+ Deliveries Towards a More Sustainable Water Economy
The world's water resources are being challenged by climate change, population growth, and regional imbalances. Since 97% of the world's water is too salty to drink, desalination is no longer just an alternative; it is a critical component of global infrastructure.
Finnchain has been part of this transformation since 2012, when we executed our first scraper system delivery for a desalination plant in Spain. Now, over 300 delivered systems later, we have established our position as a reliable global player that masters even the most challenging operating environments.
Energy Efficiency is a Key Investment
In the desalination process, energy accounts for up to 50% of the total cost of water. Global energy crises, electricity price fluctuations, and the need to reduce carbon footprints make energy efficiency particularly important.
Finnchain's systems have focused on lightness and minimizing friction from the very beginning. When scraper systems require less torque and electricity to operate 24/7, small energy savings accumulate into massive cost savings and a smaller carbon footprint over the plant's entire life cycle.
Pre-treatment Determines the Lifecycle of Membrane Technology
A common misconception is that the inefficiency of a desalination plant is solely the fault of membrane technology. In reality, the problem often starts too early in the process. If savings are made in pretreatment – such as in DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) units – heavy inorganic solids may enter and cause wear and damage to mechanical equipment downstream.
Finnchain's core competence is ensuring that this mechanical cleaning is done perfectly. We remove inorganic solids efficiently before it has a chance to cause damage, protecting your investment and extending the service life of critical infrastructure.
Material Innovations Replace Expensive Special Steels
Desalination environments are extreme in terms of corrosion. Traditionally, the industry has relied on expensive special steels, such as Duplex and Super Duplex. As an active pioneer in the industry, Finnchain is constantly searching for alternative materials to replace expensive steels in scraper systems.
Finnchain's scraper systems utilize the latest material technology that withstands demanding conditions, such as the high corrosion rate caused by seawater, warm and humid environments, and UV radiation. This reduces maintenance needs and extends the system's lifecycle by decades. Our shared goal is to save money, time, and nature.
Towards a More Sustainable Water Economy
Desalination is not just a solution for coastal cities. It also plays a key role in inland wastewater reuse and brackish water purification. In desalination, dissolved salts and minerals are removed from water, for example, using membranes, to make it drinkable.
Finnchain's scraper systems are an essential part of this circular economy chain. When building future infrastructure, pretreatment should not be left to chance. Finnchain's solutions are designed to work where standard solutions are not enough.
