Major delivery for desalination plant in Australia – “A very demanding customer chose Finnchain”

This week a large shipment will leave Rauma for Australia. Thirty-six Finnchain chain scrapers will be installed in a desalination plant being built on the west coast of the country, near Perth.

In Rauma, a large shipment of scrap metal is being packed for transport to a desalination plant in Australia.

Rainfall in the area has decreased in recent decades. At the same time, the urban area has grown: by the 2030s, Perth's population is expected to exceed three million. The new desalination plant will produce 50 billion liters of drinking water from seawater annually.

“This very demanding customer chose Finnchain because we have a proven track record of meeting extremely strict specifications. In this delivery, all metal parts are made of super duplex steel. All of those are not available off the shelf, but fortunately we have experience and good supply channels," says Gerald Dippacher, Sales Manager at Finnchain.

Finnchain delivered its first super duplex special project to Morocco in 2012. Since then, orders have been received from for example Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Singapore, India, Chile, Algeria, Senegal, the United Arab Emirates, and Kazakhstan.

“We were the first to offer super duplex scrapers. Our competitors have followed suit, but we have done well in competitive bidding thanks to our high quality. Customers know that our products will last 20 years or more. We use high-quality materials and components, we have patented technical solutions, and we continue to develop our products to make them even better," says Dippacher.

Finnchain has been selling various chain scraper systems to Australia since the 1990s. The previous large delivery was in 2024.

There is high demand for desalination plants around the world. Finnchain is in a strong position when competing for deals. It has references from dozens of plants and customer feedback is very good.

"We are like Mercedes-Benz. Not the cheapest on the market, but high quality and exceptionally durable," says Dippacher.
