Grit scrapers to Sweden – “Old water treatment plants are reaching the end of their useful life”

Grit scraper Finnchain

Two Finnchain grit scrapers were installed in a wastewater treatment plant in Sweden as part of a major renovation and expansion project.

“There are many old treatment plants in Sweden and Finland that are reaching the end of their service life. These plants, built in the 1960s and 1970s, have been renovated, expanded, or replaced with new ones in recent years. We have agreed on further installations in Sweden for 2026. Offers have been made and we are confident that we will receive more orders," says Sales Manager Iiro Vahala.

This latest delivery is typical in that it significantly increases the capacity of the treatment plant. Many other old plants are also designed to treat wastewater from a much smaller population. Urban areas have expanded over the decades and water consumption has increased.

Separation and removal of heavy inorganic solids, such as sand, gravel, and other mineral particles, is an essential step in wastewater treatment processes, as such particles can cause wear and damage to mechanical equipment downstream.

"Our grit scrapers are made of durable and stainless materials. Sand separators suitable for tanks of different sizes are always customized to the customer's needs," says Vahala.

Finnchain's sales manager Iiro Vahala carried out the installation of sand separators in Sweden together with installer Liisa-Maija Mäki-Tanila.
