I carry out installation and maintenance work on our scraper systems. I install new systems and renovate old ones. Maintenance includes a visual inspection of the scraper mechanism as well as necessary actions, such as replacing worn parts and making adjustments. Maintenance tasks usually take one to two days, whereas larger installation projects can take two to three weeks.
Clearly at point
My home is in Pyhäranta, but in I’m constantly on the road across Finland. I’ve worked at wastewater treatment plants from Hanko to Kemi and a couple of times in Sweden. Usually, I leave for work trips on Monday and return on Thursday. Installers spend a lot of time together, so good chemistry and mutual trust are essential to get the job done.

I started at Finnchain in 2017. My educational background is in maritime engineering. An engineering degree is not required for installation work at Finnchain, but knowledge of mechanical systems is highly beneficial. Previously, I worked at the Rauma shipyard as a ship cleaner and also ran a small travel business on the side. I have completed my military service and have done physical work all my life. I consider myself to be in good shape, which is important in installation work that requires both strength and endurance.

Work sites change almost weekly, so I need to be able to adapt to new environments and different people. That requires an open and outgoing attitude. At the same time, I have to be precise and careful, but not overly perfectionist – though quality is never compromised. The job also requires perseverance and quick problem-solving skills, since different situations demand workable solutions.

There are not many completely identical days in installation work, even though the tasks themselves are similar at the core. Long drives are part of the job, and you have to be prepared to spend time away from home. On trips, I often prefer AirBnB apartments because they feel more homelike than hotels and their kitchens allow me to cook for myself.
