Finnchain as Part of Addtech – More Structure, Same Identity
Since 2021, Finnchain has been part of the Nordic Addtech Group, which today holds 100% ownership of the company. The transition from a family-owned business to a listed group might suggest a significant shift, but in practice, the change is less visible in day-to-day operations than one might expect.
Addtech operates through a decentralised model. Rather than directing daily business, the group relies on its subsidiaries to lead their own operations. For Finnchain, this means that decision-making, customer relationships and operational responsibility remain firmly local.
“In the Addtech model, strength comes from local expertise and entrepreneurship. Our role is to support that by providing resources, networks and a clear direction. We leave companies the space to operate and develop in their own way over the long term,” says Mikael Keränen, Addtech’s Business Unit Manager.
Addtech’s role is most visible in structure, targets and reporting. The group follows business performance closely and has established reporting practices, particularly in financial and sustainability areas. The acquisition has also introduced a clearer structure to Finnchain’s way of working, with a more defined annual cycle and shared practices bringing greater consistency and transparency to its operations.
At the same time, Addtech’s ownership philosophy has been central to the partnership. Rather than integrating companies into a single operating model, the group focuses on developing each business individually and over the long term. This approach has aligned well with Finnchain’s own values.
Concrete value in everyday work
While Finnchain operates independently, Addtech brings benefits to everyday business. These range from access to a broad network of around 200 companies across the group to structured training and development through Addtech Academy, covering areas such as leadership, sales and sustainability. At the same time, knowledge is continuously shared across the organisation, allowing companies to learn from each other’s experiences and apply proven practices in their own operations.
The backing of a larger group also brings financial stability and the capacity to support larger-scale projects, which would be more demanding for a smaller standalone company.
In particular, access to a strong peer network has proven valuable. Finnchain’s management and specialists regularly engage with counterparts across the group, exchanging insights and learning from businesses facing similar challenges.
“Addtech has brought more structure and rhythm to how we work, while at the same time it has given us the opportunity to grow based on our own strengths. That combination works well for us,” says Krister Stenbom, Managing Director at Finnchain.
Growing together – locally and at the group level
Addtech plays an active role in supporting Finnchain’s growth, but development is built on collaboration rather than control. Finnchain continues to drive its own business, while the group contributes with ideas, targets and opportunities.
Growth is a combination of organic development and opportunities within the group. Finnchain can also actively propose companies or areas of interest within Addtech’s network, and board-level interaction brings strategic perspectives and external input to business development.
From a customer perspective, the benefits of Addtech ownership are primarily seen in reliability and capability. Finnchain combines its local expertise with the backing of a larger organisation – enabling long-term partnerships and participation in larger-scale projects.
Stronger with Addtech, true to Finnchain
The transition has had only a limited impact on Finnchain’s culture in practice – and where it has, the effects have been positive. Rather than changing the way the company operates at its core, becoming part of Addtech has brought more consistency to everyday work.
“For us, it’s been important to communicate that the change in ownership doesn’t change our customer relationships. It’s still the same people and the same partnerships,” says Krister.
Decision-making is now shared more broadly across the organisation, with more people involved and accountable. This has strengthened ownership within the team while supporting a more systematic way of working.
At the same time, Finnchain’s relationship with Addtech is best described as a balance between independence and support. Finnchain remains responsible for its own business and customer work, while Addtech provides the framework, resources and network to support long-term development. It is not about being managed from above, but about operating as an independent company within a larger context.
